Carcase Labels
MLCSL supply carcase labels to compliment the data capture package. Labels are sold to abattoirs that use MLCSL’s classification service as well as those that do not. Over seven million labels are sold annually. The labels are manufactured using a strong synthetic, thermal coated material that meets the requirements of the Foodstuffs and Consumer Act 1997. They are available in plain white, standard colours, (red, yellow, blue, green and orange), or other colours on request as special orders. The thermal print is water and fat resistant and does not smudge, the colour will not leach onto carcases and the print retains its integrity during storage and delivery. The labels will not tear when separated normally or come away from the carcase if applied correctly. They have been developed to be suitable for use in most label printers. The design of the MLCSL Ultima label gives further reassurance that the labels will print reliably at all times in all printers that have been correctly set up. With the quality of the labels second to none and the offer of free three day delivery as well as a back up service where we will monitor the usage and contact you to ensure that you never run out.
THE CONSEQUENCES OF CHEAPER LABELS
Cheaper labels can be purchased and may look attractive to the person responsible for the label budget; however, anyone considering the purchase of the cheaper labels should be aware of the following facts:
- The very low prices may just be a hook to gain the customer; prices are then increased to normal levels for subsequent orders.
- Cheaper labels are produced from inferior material that:
- Has the grain running along the length of the labels making them split easily.
- Have not been cut to a very high standard, causing problems with the delivery from the printer.
- Are not always top-coated on the thermal side so the integrity of the colours and ink may be suspect.
- Complaints may be received from your customers because of unreadable labels or ink staining of carcases.
- Traceability may be lost due to un-readable or detached labels
- Rejected labels due to breakage or sub-standard printing can in fact cost the abattoir more in the long run. The number of un-usable labels that find their way into the bin can mean that almost the same price is being paid for an inferior product as would be paid for a quality product with no wastage.
- The most important factor that should be considered is the amount of time the slaughterline may be stopped due to the reloading or re-printing of inferior labels.
