In 2006 John Dawkins approached what is now MLCSL Consulting to help him with the plans to upgrade and develop the old abattoir in Skegness (that formerly traded as Skegness and District Meats), to standards that would allow it to continue to service its existing customers and develop new premium and export markets. Since then working with the consulting teams design proposals and on going advice, a phased development programme has seen the plant transformed with re designed and re equipped slaughter lines, and new lairages, chillers, cutting/packing and retail shop facilities.
The plant now operates as Lincolnshire Premier Foods and is a key part of Lincolnshire Quality Beef and Lamb (a collaborative regional red meat initiative that was also set up with the help of MLCSL Consulting in 1997/98 and is still going strong) of which John Dawkins is now a Director. The plant is also slaughtering and cutting cattle for the Mid Shires Beef scheme, as well as offering contract slaughter for many local farmer/direct seller and other butchers and catering butchers. The company is also developing its own premium product with the Lincoln Red Beef brand (sourced from Lincoln Red/cross cattle).
